چکیده
Let u and uV ∈ V be the solution and, respectively, the discrete solution of the non-homogeneous Dirichlet problem u = f onP, u|∂P = 0. For any m ∈ N and any bounded polygonal domain P, we provide a construction of a new sequence of finite dimensional subspaces Vn such that ‖u− uVn‖H 1 ≤ C dim(Vn)−m/2‖f ‖Hm−1 , where f ∈ Hm−1(P) is arbitrary and C is a constant that depends only on P and not on n (we do not assume u ∈ Hm+1(P)). The existence of such a sequence of subspaces was first proved in a ground–breaking paper by Babuška [8]. Our method is different; it is based on the homogeneity properties of Sobolev spaces with weights and the well–posedness of non-homogeneous Dirichlet problem in suitable Sobolev spaces with weights, for which we provide a new proof, and which is a substitute of the usual “shift theorems” for boundary value problems in domains with smooth boundary. Our results extended right away to domains whose boundaries have conical points. We also indicate some of the changes necessary to deal with domains with cusps. Our numerical computation are in agreement with our theoretical results.

High Order Compact Finite Difference Schemes for Solving Bratu-Type Equations
In the present study, high order compact finite difference methods is used to solve one-dimensional Bratu-type equations numerically. The convergence analysis of the methods is discussed and it is shown that the theoretical order of the method is consistent with its numerical rate of convergence. The maximum absolute errors in the solution at grid points are calculated and it is shown that the ...
متن کاملNonlinear Guidance Law with Finite Time Convergence Considering Control Loop Dynamics
In this paper a new nonlinear guidance law with finite time convergence is proposed. The second order integrated guidance and control loop is formulated considering a first order control loop dynamics. By transforming the state equations to the normal form, a finite time stabilizer feedback linearization technique is proposed to guarantee the finite time convergence of the system states to zero...

Torsion Analysis of High-Rise Buildings using Quadrilateral Panel Elements with Drilling D.O.F.s
Generally, the finite element method is a powerful procedure for analysis of tall buildings. Yet, it should be noted that there are some problems in the application of many finite elements to the analysis of tall building structures. The presence of artificial flexure and parasitic shear effects in many lower order plane stress and membrane elements, cause the numerical procedure to converge in...
متن کاملThe Performance of an Hexahedron C* Element in Finite Element Analysis
The performance of an 8-noded hexahedron C1* element in elasticity is investigated. Three translational displacements and their derivatives as strain in each direction are considered as degrees of freedom (d.o.f.’s) at each node. The geometric mapping is enforced using a C0 element with no derivative as nodal d.o.f.’s . The stiffness matrix of the element is also computed using a transformation...
